Step back into America’s golden era with acclaimed author, garden designer, and speaker Jana Milbocker as she presents her newest book, Gardens of the Gilded Age. 

In this richly illustrated talk, Jana explores the breathtaking estates and legendary landscapes created for families such as the Cranes, Vanderbilts, and Rockefellers—alongside the visionary architects and designers who brought their grandeur to life. Discover the stories behind these magnificent gardens and the people who shaped them, then meet the author during a post-talk book signing.

This program is a one-hour lecture with Q&A followed by a book signing with Jana Millbocker.

    ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR - Jana Millbocker
        

Jana MillbockerJana Milbocker is the principal of Enchanted Gardens, a lecturer and author. She combines horticulture, design, and travel tips to educate, inspire and delight both new and seasoned gardeners. Jana loves to visit gardens and historic sites in the U.S. and abroad, and share her trips through her books, lectures and group garden tours.

Her latest book, Gardens of the Gilded Age: Lavish Landscapes from America’s Golden Era will be published in June, 2026, and takes readers on a visual tour of some of the most breathtaking historic gardens in America. From sumptuous formal gardens to artistically designed landscapes, this book introduces readers to the glorious gardens created for the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, du Ponts and other captains of industry. Hear their stories and discover the history and inspiration behind their stunning landscapes. With lush photography and informative text, Gardens of the Gilded Age is a delight for the senses and a fascinating view of the era.

Educated as a designer, Jana brings years of critical design thinking, clarity and cohesiveness to her books and landscape solutions. Her professional experience includes twenty five years as an art director and marketing consultant, and 15 years as a landscape designer. Jana holds a BFA from Syracuse University, an MBA from Boston College, and coursework in horticulture and landscape design. The 2-acre garden surrounding her Victorian home features more than 140 varieties of trees and shrubs, perennial gardens, peony and rose beds, water features and shady retreats.
