Take a leisurely hike around the
grounds at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill together and stop to sketch
what you see. We'll walk as a group
around the wildlife refuge pond, up into the Inner Park, and to the summit,
stopping at each location along the way to draw what we see - plants, animals,
trees, stones, statues. At the end,
we'll share our sketches and talk about our experience. No experience required!
Participants should bring their own
materials (sketchbooks, drawing boards, pencils, pens, etc.). It is also recommended to bring something to
sit on if needed (a garden knee pad or portable chair) and to wear comfortable
walking shoes or hiking boots.
Instructor: Victoria Chapman
Victoria K. Chapman is a Massachusetts
resident and native of New England. Inspired by the forests and natural lands
of the places she has lived and visited, her art celebrates nature, animals,
and the Earth, but also with a touch of magic and imagination.
Victoria believes that an appreciation
and respect for the Earth first comes from a simple enjoyment of the outdoors.
She wishes to share stories and art that inspire children and grown-ups to
appreciate the spirit and magic of the natural world and the Earth’s amazing
diversity. Victoria also appreciates mindfulness and a gentle approach to
viewing the world and our place within it. Imagination has always been a huge
part of her life and work.
Victoria graduated from the University
of Connecticut in 2004 with a degree in Fine Art and a concentration in
Illustration under the tutelage of professor Cora Lynn Deibler. After a 20-year
career in web design and development, Victoria now works exclusively on art and
illustration, writing children’s picture books, and teaching art to others. She
runs Weyakin Designs, her music project Aquaence (see more at
aquaence.bandcamp.com), and can also be found dancing as part of the bellydance
duo The Nixies. Among all of that, she is a mom to three amazing kids ranging in
age from 4 to 20, and a lovable rescue dog named Daisy. In her free time,
Victoria also enjoys gardening, going for hikes in the woods, and spending time
with friends and family.
