Create, sip, and unwind as you explore the art of Chinese brush painting surrounded by the summer beauty of the Garden at sunset.
This class introduces you to the four treasures of Chinese brush painting - ink stone, ink sticks, brush, and paper - while guiding you through painting techniques for poppies and butterflies. Through demonstration and hands-on practice, you’ll develop skills in brushwork and composition inspired by the peaceful beauty of the Garden.
Take this two-hour class to relax, create, and meditate through art.
Required Materials (not included with registration):
- Two containers (minimum size: 2 cups—one for clean water, one for cleaning brushes).
- Two flat white 6-8-inch plates (a small dinner plate is fine).

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Sau-Mei Leung
Sau-Mei Leung holds a Natural Science Illustration Certificate from RISD Continuing Education and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Connecticut. Her love for art began with Chinese calligraphy in primary school in Hong Kong. Sau-Mei has exhibited at the Davis Art Gallery, New England Botanic Garden, and Art Providence. Her work was featured in Scenes and Seasons of a Small New England Village by Leonard A. Haug. She is passionate about sharing her love for art, nature, and science.
