Join our three-part series of photography workshops at New England Botanic Garden, blending online theory sessions, an in-person walk with 1:1 conversation, and an online sharing and critique class.  Explore smartphone techniques, master composition, and engage in interactive critiques to enhance your photography skills. All classes in the Mastering Photography series are beginner friendly but adaptable to all levels.  


Smartphones and cameras are not provided.  Please bring your own equipment to the in-person session as well as the online sessions.

  • October 4th: Online Smartphone Class – 6- to 8pm (We will send you a follow up email as we approach the class with the Zoom links.)
  • October 5th: In-Person, Outdoor Walk – 10am to 12:30pm at the NEBG (This class will happen rain or shine)
  • October 6th: Online Critique Class, 6 to 8pm 

Instructor: Steve McGrath


Steve McGrath is a professional freelance photographer and photography teacher who has been creating images for over 20 years. Steve first began by shooting sports photography for local high schools, then weddings, and stock agencies. Then his love of the outdoors led him to focus more on his true passion, nature photography. Steve was an active member of the Gateway Camera Club for many years and has won many ribbons and awards at fairs and competitions through the group and on his own. Several of his images have been published in school textbooks. His favorite places to shoot are Acadia National Park in Maine, the Green Mountains of Vermont, and the Cape Cod National Seashore.

To register for a class:

  • Choose Your Class: Return to the class you wish to attend.
  • Add Students: If you have not already done so, you will need to scroll to the bottom of the page and add attendees. You will need to add yourself and anyone else you wish to register with. If you have already done this, the attendees will be listed below and simply check the box next to the desired attendees.
  • Add To Cart: Add the class to your cart and pay. You will receive an email confirming the registration.
